Did you really use the CGEM to take this? I thought they hadn't started shipping it yet. Anyways, I have one on order right now. How do you like it? |

Yes, this was taken with the new CGEM mount. I have been testing the mount for Celestron over the last few weeks. The mount was loaded up with an 11" scope, guidesscope and camera, and it still performed very well. I'm sure you will enjoy yours very much! |

I'm torn between a smaller scope (925) on the CGE mount and a larger scope (1100) on the CGEM mount for my upgrade from a Nexstar 8. Your images are beautiful from the CGEM...is it a worthy imaging mount? How does it compare to the CGE?
thanks for the inspirational photography -

Hi Hogarth-There's no substitue for aperture. I used the CGEM 1100 fully loaded with a camera and guidescope (about 40lbs) and it still performed fine for imaging. If you are planning on holding a scope much heavier than 40 lbs then the CGE wwould be the way to go. Hope this helps. |

No focal reducer used. It was taken at f/10 but with a full frame ccd chip (42mm). Celetron won't come out with a reducer until later next year. |

Great photo. I am seriously planning on buying a similar scope as yours (11 inch Edge HD with CGEM mount). That would be stretching my budget, but I would like to get the new aplanatic technology. The CGE Pro mount is too expensive for me at this moment and I guess that I may be able to upgrade later. My worry is related to the stability of the CGEM mount relative to the 11 inch scope. Of course, I would have to add the weight of the camera and perhaps a guide scope. A more expensive mount is really out of the question at this moment, which means the only real alternative is the CGEM, but I would like to be prepared for the combination (scope and mount) so that I will not face any unforeseen surprises. Your input will be greatly appreciated. If you think such a detailed answer would take too much space here, I can send you my email. Thanks for your help. |

Hi Jose- I had a 90mm guidescope piggybacked on top along with a DSLR on the 11" and had no problems getting good tracking. The 90mm guidescope is probably overkill especially if you are under dark skies. A lighter 60-70mm scope would have worked fine. You will probably need to buy an extra 11# counterweight to balance properly. Other than that you should have no problem imaging with this setup. |
